We need your support!

We are excited to bring you an important update on our plans for Amary Farm over the next few years! Hopefully, you will already be aware of all the work we’ve carried out to transform bare pasture into a successful organic market garden that provides over one hundred households a week with nutritious fresh organic produce.

Our plans focus on increasing the outdoor growing space, so we can bring more produce to our community through our veg box deliveries and regular markets. We will also expand our new poultry system, which consists of laying hens that will be grazed throughout the woodland areas in mobile chicken sheds. We will also introduce meat chickens, in a year or so, using the same high welfare, certified organic standards.

To support this growth, new infrastructure is required at Amary Farm - an extension to the existing barn and a sustainable, low impact dwelling. The workload and poultry at the farm provides an essential need for the presence of a full-time worker. The dwelling (or “rural worker’s dwelling” is the formal planning term) will be for our family - Will, Shem & Nyah). Alternative, affordable housing is not available in the close vicinity of Amary Farm, so we are travelling upto twice daily from Barnstaple to manage the day to day activities on the farm but still lack the ability to respond to “out of hours” emergencies without living full-time on-site.

Over the next few weeks, we will be working with a planning consultant to pull a comprehensive planning application together to submit to North Devon District Council. The planning barrier for rural worker’s dwelling are high, especially in the National Landscape (former AONB), but we believe our application will meet the criteria set-out and will have a negilible visual impact on the surrounding landscape, which we are proud to be farming in.

As part of our application we would like to provide a register of people, who support our business, either as a customer or as general supporter of small scale growers. The register is a crucial element to demonstrate that the community is backing our business plan and application.

So, please use the link below to sign our register and help support our exciting plans for Amary Farm along with our family’s future.

Thanks, Will, Shem & Nyah
